Guided Bike Trips
Please note that our guided bike trips are temporarily unavailable. For alternative trip ideas please contact our Recreation Department at (209) 379-2606 x140 or recreation@evergreenlodge.com.

The hundreds of kids riding bikes at neighboring Camp Mather can't be wrong, the riding in our area is really fun. We have a number of wonderful rides that cruise our local fire roads and wind down mellow country roads, all leading to some of our favorite swimming holes. Some of our rides are round trips while others include a van pick-up to bring you back to the lodge, avoiding those long uphill jaunts. These trips are designed for all levels of riders though you should be comfortable riding for a few hours and managing the occasional up and downhill section.

While specific bike trips are subject to change (both day to day and seasonally), our current offering is summarized below:

Our guided trips have limited capacity and should be reserved in advance. Please call our Recreation Department at (209) 379-2606 x140, email us, or send a Recreation Request.

Historic Rainbow Pools & Tuolumne River Confluence ‘Bike, Hike & Swim’
Offered April - September

Join us on a scenic one-way (mostly downhill!) bike ride winding down historic back roads through Camp Mather and along portions of the famed Hetch Hetchy Railroad high above the Tuolumne River Canyon to historic Rainbow Pools. Along the way, we’ll stop to marvel at dramatic vistas, wildflower meadows, lush forest and granite formations. We’ll also learn the history that transformed the area, as the city of San Francisco ushered in a new era of development into the unforgiving Western Slope of the Sierra Nevada in an effort to bring clean, dependable mountain water to its citizens in the early 1900’s.

Upon finishing our downhill bike adventure, we’ll head off for a scenic two mile roundtrip hike into a secluded river valley to the confluence of the South and Middle forks of the Tuolumne River where these two beautiful waterways join up deep in the scenic river canyon. We can then have a picnic, enjoy a swim beneath the waterfalls or search for remnants of the old buildings that once hung precariously from the steep granite walls, before our van picks us up and drives us (and our bikes) back to the lodge!

‘Bike & Hike’ to Granite Gorge
Offered April-May, October

Cruise the back roads of the Yosemite area on this classic one-way ‘bike and hike’ trip to one of our favorite waterways and swimming holes. Our trip will begin with a leisurely bike ride along uncrowded roads (with lots of downhill!) that wind their way among forests and meadows and reveal dramatic vistas along the Hetch Hetchy valley rim. After reaching our bike destination, we will enjoy a pleasant two-mile hike (4 miles roundtrip) along the pristine Tuolumne River to Granite Gorge. The hike will include lush forests, wildflowers, wildlife and beautiful meadows.

Our naturalist guides lead the way, pointing out memorable features and wildlife throughout your journey. Once we arrive at our destination, you’ll have time to picnic, relax and explore before hiking back out. Our van will then pick us up and drive us (and our bikes) back up to the lodge!
