School & Youth Groups
The Evergreen Lodge provides schools with an unbeatable combination of lodging and recreation programs. Our beautiful, secluded location on Yosemite’s western border at 4,600 feet provides year-round, convenient access to all areas of the park. Groups can choose to stay in our comfortable cabins or to camp in our private campground. Either way, the Evergreen restaurant team will provide all of your meals, and our professional guide service and recreation department will craft programs suited to your group’s goals.

Our recent expansion of the beautiful 90 year old property has allowed us to create the ideal retreat location for school and youth groups. We have garnered rave reviews in local and national press and our combination of beautiful cabins, great food and facilities, guided recreation programs and world class location are second to none.

Our recreation programs have a naturalist focus and are flexible and diverse in scope, which allows us to work with your group to create the right experience to meet your goals. Lodge owner, Dan Braun, oversees your programs. Dan is a founder of the Sierra’s leading outdoor outfitter, Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides, and is a Yosemite/Sierra expert with over 20 years of guiding and program development experience.

Guided Recreation Programs
Our guided recreation programs focus on enjoyment of Yosemite’s natural wonders with education subtly integrated into the activities by our naturalist guides. Students will come away with a greater appreciation of Yosemite’s awe-inspiring natural beauty while also learning about its dynamic ecosystem and the issues that affect the wilderness.

Activities typically emphasize hiking in the spring and fall, and a mix of hiking and snowshoeing in the winter. These outings usually require modest effort and are designed to allow all participants to enjoy the day’s adventure. Our trips in the Hetch Hetchy area focus on the local ecosystem as well as the current nationwide debate surrounding dams and dam removal, including both environmental and utilities issues.

In addition, our evening programs, which include movies, campfires and guest speakers, provide a relaxing, fun complement to our outings and are a great way to unwind and wrap up the day.

Subjects Integrated into Recreation Programs:

  • Flora and fauna
  • Fire and water ecology
  • Weather and navigation
  • Natural and cultural history
  • Local Native American history
  • Conflicting demands on resources
  • Environmental issues
  • Wilderness ethics
